Good for you -- hard as it may be, it’s always best to help your loved ones confront an issue such as dandruff to avoid future embarrassment or social criticism. Pick a quiet, private moment and bring up the subject gently. Ask him if he’s noticed the white flakes on his shoulders, or that he’s constantly scratching his scalp. He may not even realize he has dandruff symptoms, much less that the problem is becoming noticeable to others.
Encourage your husband to get evaluated by a doctor to make sure the diagnosis is indeed dandruff. If it is, the doctor will likely recommend daily washing with an over-the-counter or prescription emollient-rich shampoo specially formulated to fight flakes. If that doesn’t do the trick, a dermatologist can prescribe a topical steroid to decrease inflammation and relieve itching.
